When is a good time to see a physical therapist?

A Physical Therapist uses exercises and physical activities to help condition muscles and restore strength and movement.

There are many causes of loss of strength and mobility. Our modern lifestyles are so busy, we are constantly running from point A to point B at home, or in our cars- prolonged sitting, prolonged driving, spending long hours sitting on our computers. And we do not have enough time to exercise.

Our muscles lose optimal strength needed for our day to day activity, and joints lose mobility as well. So we end up hurting ourselves with sometimes the most trivial activities, and continue to hurt ourselves day in and out. We take pain pills and believe that aches and pains are a part of normal aging. That is not all true. A lot of aches and pains are treatable with Physical Therapy.

Think of human body as complex machines. And muscles and joints are to our body as struts and suspension in a car. The benefits of changing oil in your car on time are numerous. Regular oil changes improve your engine’s performance, extend its longevity, and help your car achieve its peak gas mileage. The same way, seeing a Physical Therapist improves mileage of the human body. A Physical Therapist helps not only with pain, but with mobility, strength and restoration of function as well.

So, now is a great time to see a Physical Therapist. I would say that everyone should see a Physical Therapist at least 2 times a year. Just as we go see a physician for an annual exam, or we see our dentist at least 1-2 times a year, one should make time to take care of their muscles and joints, any aches and pains that may be hindering optimal function of body.
